WOMEN (14 & OVER)

Women's hockey is open women aged 14 and over. At this level of ice hockey body checking is not allowed but slapshots are allowed.

Training

During the season the Women train once a week on Tuesday evenings from 7:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Extra training sessions may be booked in the run-up to league play-offs or national championships.

Players are expected to arrive at training sessions at least one-half hour before the scheduled time to ensure that they are in their equipment and ready to take to the ice, as soon as available.

Competition

Women can compete in the local Canberra Senior C competition. Games are played in Canberra on weekends. If numbers permit, there may be a Women's team entered in the Senior C competition.

There is a possibility of competing in the Hume Shield in Liverpool in March/April and other mini-tournaments and games may be organised through the 2011 season.

Women players may also sign up for an extra league and may play with the Bantams, Senior D, C or B competitions as appropriate depending on age and skill.

National Tournament

The Joan McKowen tournament is held every Winter Olympics year, the next one being 2014. In all years, the Joan McKowen trophy will be awarded to the winner of the AWIHL (Australian Women's Ice Hockey League).
