Peewees

PEEWEES (13 & UNDER)

Peewee hockey is open to girls and boys aged 13 and under. At this level of ice hockey in Australia there is no body checking or slapshots.

Training

During the season the Peewees train once a week on Tuesday evenings from 5:00 pm until 6:00 pm. Extra training sessions may be booked in the run-up to National Championships.

Players are expected to arrive at training sessions at least one-half hour before the scheduled time to ensure that they are in their equipment and ready to take to the ice, as soon as available. Remember that neck guards and mouth guards are compulsory, and players are not allowed on the ice if they do not have them. We recommend custom-made mouth guards to help protect teeth and mouth, as well as to help prevent concussion.

Competition

Depending on numbers of players, Pee Wees will share ice time with another league, e.g., Atoms or Bantams, for training. Games are on Sunday afternoons, and again depending on numbers the Pee Wee players may join with Atoms. Pee Wees are normally matched against Pee Wees in games, depending on the skill levels of individual players.

National Tournament 2011

Phil Ginsberg - Newcastle, 4-7 August

Heaton Cup

This invitational tournament is for Pee Wee and Midget teams and is held in Canterbury on Good Friday each year. This year Good Friday is 22 April. Your Head Coach and/or Manager will let you know if we have a team in this year's Heaton Cup.

News

Your Head Coach this year is Andrew Brunt, a skilled hockey player with heaps of experience!

Training this year starts on Tuesday 8 March, earlier than previous years. We start earlier because of increased interest across the association, and anticipate this will help players and teams develop even better this year!
